Causes, Detection and Mitigation of Radio Interference in Practice

This two-day program is intended for spectrum monitoring engineers, radio communication specialists, and mid-level managers from spectrum management and regulatory authorities. It is designed to strengthen both theoretical knowledge and practical capabilities in real-world interference detection and mitigation.

Delivered in English, the course combines classroom theory, demonstrations, and field-based exercises. Participants are introduced to the fundamentals of radio interference - its causes, detection, and mitigation - while developing hands-on skills in spectrum monitoring, signal identification, and interference hunting.

Training Content

Day 1 – Radio Spectrum, Signals and Spectrum Monitoring

Modules:

  • Radio Spectrum Fundamentals and Management
  • Electromagnetic Field and Modulation Principles
  • Signal Propagation and Undesired Emissions

Day 2 – Radio Interference Identification and Localization

Modules:

  • Understanding Radio Interference and Its Causes
  • Classification and Case Studies of Interference
  • Practical Spectrum Monitoring and Signal Analysis
  • Monitoring Equipment and Direction-Finding Techniques
  • Practical Interference Hunting (“Fox Hunting”)
  • Closing Session

After completing the program, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the physical and technical fundamentals of the radio spectrum and signal propagation
  • Identify and classify types and sources of radio interference
  • Operate spectrum analyzers and direction-finding systems effectively
  • Perform interference localization (“hunting”) in real operational environments
  • Apply standardized methods for interference reporting and mitigation
