On October 30 and 31, 2025, the international conference and practical training session "Q-Ready 25: Quantum-Safe Horizons" took place at the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Latvia (IMCS UL) in Riga. The event aimed to bring together regional and international experts to explore practical steps toward quantum-safe communication and data storage within the European and EuroQCI ecosystem.

The conference focused on the two main pillars of quantum-safe technology: Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) and Quantum Key Distribution (QKD). The program included specialized training where professionals explored leading quantum-resistant algorithms and the principles of integrating QKD into modern communication infrastructures.

Special attention was devoted to the development of EuroQCI in the Baltic Sea Region, where Latvia was represented by the LatQN project. During the sessions, participants were introduced to several significant aspects of the project:

  • Rihards Mukstiņš and Māris Petrovskis (Tet) presented "Securing the future with commercial quantum-safe solutions," sharing expertise on the role of commercial solutions in future defense.
  • Guntis Ancāns (Electronic Communications Office of Latvia) delivered a presentation on "5G Use case examples in the LATQN project and insights into PQC in wireless communications".
  • Kārlis Kurgs (LVRTC), the LatQN project coordinator, presented the "LatQN deployment results," providing an overview of the progress made in infrastructure development.

In addition to Latvia's experience, the event featured insights from neighboring projects, such as EstQCI (Estonia) and NaQCi.fi (Finland), fostering regional knowledge exchange.

The event concluded with the insight that collaboration between state institutions, research centers, and industry - as demonstrated by the LatQN project - is crucial for ensuring European digital sovereignty.
